US Calls for Release of Binance Employee Detained in Nigeria

The United States has stepped up its diplomatic efforts to secure the release of Tigran Gambaryan, a Binance employee detained in Nigeria since February, amid concerns over his deteriorating health while in custody. The development was confirmed by two senior State Department officials.

Gambaryan, a former U.S. law enforcement official, was arrested under unclear circumstances, and his continued detention has increasingly strained U.S.-Nigerian relations. In a series of diplomatic engagements, including a notable exchange between Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken and his Nigerian counterpart in May, the United States has repeatedly pressed for Gambaryan’s release.

These diplomatic overtures extended to several Nigerian officials, including the president, the finance minister, the attorney general and the trade minister, U.S. diplomats said in private reports.
